How to Get to Ifrane: Complete Transport Guide

Before you can enjoy Ifrane’s cedar forests, snow-dusted chalets, and crisp mountain air, you need to actually get there.

Knowing how to get to Ifrane is the first and most important step in planning your trip, and the good news is that it’s easier and more affordable than most people expect. Whether you’re coming from Fès, Meknès, or Casablanca, this guide covers every transport option available so you can choose what works best for your budget and travel style.

Ifrane sits in the heart of the Middle Atlas mountains, about 63 km south of Fès and 77 km from Meknès. It has no train station, but that doesn’t make it hard to reach, far from it. Once you know your options, getting here is straightforward.

Getting to Ifrane from Fès

For most travelers, knowing how to get to Ifrane from Fès is the most useful information in this guide. Fès is the nearest major city and the most common starting point. You have two main options:

Grand taxi (shared taxi)

This is the most popular and practical option. Grand taxis depart from the Fès taxi stand near the bus station and run frequently throughout the day. The journey takes about one hour and costs around 30–40 MAD per seat. You share the taxi with up to five other passengers, and it departs once full, so during busy periods you won’t wait long at all.

  • Tip: If you want to leave immediately without waiting, you can pay for the remaining empty seats yourself.

CTM or local bus

Buses are the cheapest option, with tickets costing as little as 20–25 MAD. The journey takes longer, roughly 1.5 to 2 hours, but the ride is comfortable and scenic. CTM buses are the most reliable, with fixed schedules you can check in advance at ctm.ma.

  • Tip: Book ahead during winter weekends, buses fill up fast when snow draws crowds to Ifrane.

Getting to Ifrane from Meknès

If you’re wondering how to get to Ifrane from Meknès, the process is very similar to departing from Fès. Meknès is slightly closer, about 77 km away, and the journey takes a similar amount of time.

Grand taxi from Meknès

Bus from Meknès

Several bus companies connect Meknès to Ifrane daily. As with Fès, CTM is the most reliable option. Tickets are affordable and the journey is comfortable.

  • Tip: If you’re combining both cities in one trip, consider visiting Meknès on the way to or from Ifrane, it makes for an excellent day stop.

Getting to Ifrane from Casablanca

Train + grand taxi (recommended)

This is the smoothest option. Take the ONCF train from Casablanca Voyageurs station to Fès. The journey takes about 4 hours and costs around 100–150 MAD in second class. From Fès, jump in a grand taxi to Ifrane as described above. The full journey is comfortable, affordable, and stress-free. Check train schedules at oncf.ma.
